Pharmacogenomic Testing

At Pediatric Wellness Partners, we recognize that every child is biologically unique. Pharmacogenomic testing helps us personalize psychiatric care by examining how a child’s unique genetics may influence their response to certain medications. This advanced testing can offer insights into:
-
How a child may metabolize common psychiatric medications used to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more!
-
How quickly and effectively person's body might process (metabolize) a medication
-
Guidance for medication dosing based on unique metabolism
-
Guidance about non-medication interventions that may reduce the need for higher medication doses
While pharmacogenomic testing does not replace clinical judgment, it serves as a valuable tool in minimizing trial-and-error and supporting more personalized, effective treatment—especially in complex or sensitive cases. In some cases, when people have tried multiple medications without improvement, or with unintended side effects, a healthcare provider may order pharmacogenomic testing to get more information. The test results will be used in combination with information from past treatment to make decisions about future treatment.
Note that this option is not right for everyone we treat, and we do not base treatment decisions solely on this testing. We offer this service as part of our commitment to integrative, individualized care for children, adolescents, and young adults.
